Founder story

Why we’re no longer Rockwell Run Club

A runner seen from behind on a Manila bridge at dusk, in a black T-shirt that reads Rockwell Running Club, Keep showing up.
The Rockwell Running Club shirt.

The name always mattered more than the place.

When we started, we ran in Rockwell. So we called ourselves Rockwell Run Club. Simple.

But as the club grew, one question kept coming up, in DMs, in person, at the start line:

“Do I have to live in Rockwell to join?”

The answer was always no.

You didn’t have to live there. You didn’t have to know anyone. You didn’t have to be fast, experienced, or even call yourself a runner yet.

You just had to show up.

And the fact that people kept asking made us realize something: the name no longer reflected who we were becoming.

We were never really about a location.

We were about the people who showed up, wherever they came from, whatever pace they ran, whatever they were carrying with them that week.

Calling ourselves after one neighborhood unintentionally made the club feel more exclusive than it was ever meant to be. The community had already grown beyond Rockwell, and the name needed to grow with it.

There was a bigger picture, too.

From the beginning, I knew I didn’t want this to stay in one pocket of Manila. I imagined more starting lines, more neighborhoods, more cities, and eventually communities far beyond Metro Manila.

A name tied to one place put a boundary around something that was never meant to have one.

So we changed it.

Just Show Up Club.

Three words that say exactly what we believe.

You don’t have to be the fastest.
You don’t have to have everything figured out.
You don’t have to wait until you feel ready.

Just show up.

That has always been the heart of this community. Running just happened to be where we found each other first.

The routes may change. The cities may change. The community will keep growing.

But wherever we go, the invitation stays the same:

JUST SHOW UP.
